Am I doing something wrong??  I tried the online demo and it displays the same issue.  Try this out link out, select a date and then try changing the year or month and the test field does not update.

Shouldn't the input text field change as you or after you change the month or year dropdown?  This seems like it should be the default behavior. 

If I''m missing something, please tell me.
