it appears that apart from using text instead of html which I have tested before to make no difference in jqm 1.2, it was essential to use jqm 1.3.

Great!! Always bear in mind that when jQM enhances your markup it dramatically changes the DOM content; developer tools do really come in handy when you want to examine the enhanced content for whatever reason.

now I see that
1. 1.2 was not the cause of the code not working. I must have messed things up in the meantime.
2. your 'addition' of
- .change()
I instantly checked if the code worked without it, and it did! However, with a much more complex piece of code that i need it for, it did not.
what does it do? it was not in my non jqm attempts either.
