Hello,
I have a drag and drop feature that works fine on the computer browsers.
It can be seen at http://www.thalasoft.com/elearning/exercise/55/page/201/subscription/
But on the iphone/ipod it's a different story.
The dragging is apparently disabled for it is already a feature of the device.
What solution can be used to solve this issue and have a drag and drop on the iphone/ipod ?

The iphone/ipad uses touch events instead of mouse events, and jQuery UI drag-and-drop currently only handles mouse events. Work is being done to add support for touch events.

Would you know if and where I can subscribe to a Jira so as to get notified when the version of jQuery with the touch event gets released ?

Thanks Mat for the tip on the Touch plugin.
I see I would need to alter a bit my code to make use of it.
The thing is, I'm in no hurry to deliver this touch support and I can wait a bit.
What I'm aiming for now is to wait for jQuery to come up with touch support in a future release.
As I understood, jQuery will soon support touch events.
This way, I won't need to alter my source code at all.
The same source code is used on regular computers and ipod/ipohone. Well, that's ny hope.

I saw the blog http://feeds2.feedburner.com/jquery-ui talks about a specific website for the mobile platform http://jquerymobile.com
Is it that jQuery UI itself will not support the touch event ?
So I would need to have 2 versions of my code, one for the regular browsers using jQuery UI and one for the mobile based ones using the jQuery Mobile ?

Rest assured that the jQuery Mobile work is being well coordinated with jQuery UI. We'll have to wait and see how (soon) touch support makes it into jQuery UI, but it's not our plan to keep it out just because jQuery Mobile exists.

Interesting discussion. An iPad has recently also arrived at my kitchen sink. And it immediately occurred to me that my jQuery app, build around a lot of drag'n'drop, would encounter some difficulties on that platform. How is a touch-aware jQuery UI gonna help me in that situation? I think that, realistically, the iPad will require a totally different code base/user experience.
On this subject, I expect many of you are customers of Amazon? Have you experienced what happens when you marry Apple's iPad to Amazon's One-Click shopping experience? Fasten seat-belts. The only way I can avoid inadvertently ordering stacks of books whilst merely browsing the Amazon store with my iPad is by consciously signing out of Amazon after each transactions. Unreal... :-)))

Hello,
I have looked at http://www.jqtouch.com/ and it looks really nice, but I am missing the drag/drop possibility here. It especially occurred to me that this isn't supported when I wanted to slide the sample toggle in the user interface/forms option. Is this going to be supported in jQuery Mobile?
There is an example of jQuery drag and drop on the iphone right here: http://www.manifestinteractive.com/iphone/touch
Although it works, there are obviously some problems that hinder a fluent user interaction (for instance: many times the page itself is moved instead of the boxes)
