Draggable item fixed to drag outside of carousel, but won't stick when dropped.

I'm working on an interface for making a cake. My initial problem was that I wanted the ingredients to be grouped into a carousel slider, but I wasn't able to drag anything out of the carousel. I fixed that using helper: 'clone' and appendTo: "body". But now, if I drag an item anywhere, as soon as I let go of it it jumps back to the original location.
