According to Koch, outerHTML was never supported by FF.

var _htmlText = $('#whatever')[0].parentNode.innerHTML;

That is not the same as outerHTML. Consider the following:

1. <ul>
2.       <li id="first">Blah</li>
3.       <li id="second">Blah</li>
4. </ul>
