ListView with alphabetical index

Hello!

Is there any facility to create alphabetical indexes on a long listview? The effect I'm talking about is shown on iOS here: http://i.imgur.com/8BlkG.jpg

I didn't know if anybody else had tried to create this functionality, of if there is a recommended way to allow users to jump to specific sections of a large list view.

If I understood you correctly...

You can get this functionality by using the nav-bars.

Having said that, you can get better usage by giving the user the built in feature of filter! (e.g. http://jquerymobile.com/test/docs/lists/docs-lists.html#lists-search.html )

Unless I'm missing something on the nav bars, I think we may be talking about two different things. Here's an updated image to show more specifically what I'm talking about: http://i.imgur.com/0jDZ0.jpg

I'm talking about the vertical a-z index on the right side of the window. Tapping the letter "R" would jump down to the "R" heading. I'm not sure if there's a more proper title for it. This is sort of a staple in iOS native development, but is this concept possible with jQuery Mobile?

Thanks for the advice on the filter. That may be my only option here.

Been searching but can't find that this functionality exists in JQM yet.

They have auto dividers now: http://jquerymobile.com/demos/1.2.0/docs/lists/lists-autodividers.html

Read there. As for jumping it's probably something you will have to implement yourself.

Yep, I know, but I was looking for something that could already provide the vertical single character menu that I could just "hook" it to the beginning of an auto-divider... Afaik, the auto-dividers themselves might need some tweaking even to provide an id that I could reference...

Not sure quite what the question here is.

No, this functionality is not included in jQuery Mobile.

Why not create this yourself and then share your solution? Did you search to see if somebody else has done it?

You could fixed-position a div with alpha transparency over the listview. You would need to set a Z-index in CSS so that it will get the taps.
