nivo slider and lava lamp not working for me

I'm kind of new at this.... with that said, I'm trying to get the nivo slider to work with my lavalamp menu.

I'm using these in a wordpress theme, and I tried to include jquery the "right way"

but couldn't get the menu and the slideshow to work. I would get one working, but not the other.

I've uploaded all the latest scripts to the server, and still can't get it to work.

Can anyone help? i would love to load the scripts properly, I'm just not sure what to do at this point.
