On my mobile site, I have a footer with a button of "back" - I am trying to figure out how to remove the button for the home page (so it just shows the footer with no button), but have the button show up on sub-pages.
jQuery Mobile footers are not global. They only exist on a given page if you have included a footer on that page. (There is some trickery that can make it appear that you have a fixed footer that is constant on all pages, but that is a separate issue.)
Your footer is the same on every page because you have put a footer on every page.
This is really a PHP question, not a JQM question. You've used a PHP include to put the same footer on every page. If you want a different footer on a particular page, then you have to put a different footer on that page.
Thanks for the reply. I'll probably take this question over to stackoverflow in the PHP section. In wordpress, there is only one footer.php, and in a page.php, it's make a call to that footer.php - hence, the same footer on each page. I'll have some tinkering to do.
But thank you for your reply. You're right, this is a PHP question, not really related to JQM.
