Stop a specific button calling validation

I have a form with two buttons. For some reason, both buttons call validation on the form even though only one is a 'submit' type. Can I make the other one not validate the form and proceed with its normal (jQuery bind(click)) action?

It's probably easy, but I can't see it.

I too have this situation.

I setup my validation as:

$("formName").validate({

debug: true,

wrapper: "li"

});

now I am trying bypass the validation if a special button is used.

I have 2 buttons like:

<INPUT TYPE="submit"
       NAME="save_only"
       ID="save_only"
       VALUE="Save Only no Validate">
<INPUT TYPE="submit"
       NAME="save"
       ID="save"
       VALUE="Save AND Validate">

Set class="cancel" to the other button, and it'll skip validation on submit.

Joern,
I need to also disable validation if the form has a specific checkbox unchecked.
Like this I click the submit button and checkbox A is not checked then cancel validation and continue with submit
