The following code works fine but is not documented.
Why is it not documented? Do you plan to support it in the future?
$({}).bind("myEvent", function(evt, param) {
alert(param);
}).trigger("myEvent", "Hi there!")

No particular reason why it's not documented (other than that it's rather non-traditional for most users) - but yes, we support it and have unit tests for it.

John, Just to clarify, support for plain objects (ie. $({}) etc) will continue, uninterrupted, correct?
I'm sort of relying on this for jQuery.Hive...
