When opening panel current position on page is lost.

1. Goto http://jquerymobile.com/test/docs/panels/index.html

2. Scroll halfway the page to section "Opening a panel"

3. Click the "Default panel" in this section

Result: panel is opened but calling page is back to top

And related. When scrolling in the panel, the page under it will scroll as well.

Is it possible that both panel and underlaying page behave independent in terms of scrolling.

This opposite behaviour of panels in most known apps like e.g. Facebook.

I would report this issue exactly as you have on the github. Link to github: https://github.com/jquery/jquery-mobile

As for your second question the short answer is no. The panel is actually just another page on top of the existing page. Could you do it? Sure, it might take quite a bit of time, not too sure. One thing I am certain of is that you would have to, as I don't believe there are any plugins or modifications that exist for JQM panels that will do this.
