Need to detect browser type without using $.browser

$.browser is being deprecated however I still need to know what browser is hitting the page. In some cases I need to modify a layout or position an element by some pixels. The number of pixels is different for different browsers.

How can I detect the browser using jQuery without using $.browser?

Will an autocomplete plgin be in version 1.0?

I don't see an autocomplete plugin in this list https://github.com/jquery/jquery-mobile/wiki? Does this mean what's in the list is what will be getting in version 1.0 and nothing more?

jQuery autocomplete plugin doesn't render properly

I copied the source from the autocomplete/combobox from http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/#combobox and then added the jQuery Mobile css and js files. Now the autocomplete doesn't render properly anymore. See screen capture. The button (down arrow one) to expand list is gone. When I checked the html and css for the button, I noticed it has the css 'ui-btn-hidden' which is causing it to not display.

What am I missing? Is the autocomplete plugin not compatible with jQuery Mobile at all? I read in another post that jQuery Mobile will have it own native autocomplete plugin but can I use this one for now?

I have seen some posts about Alpha 2 not behaving well with ASP.NET WebForms. Is ASP.NET WebForms still a viable option or should one use ASP.NET MVC to develop jQuery Mobile apps? I know MVC could be better but I want to know if I can stick with WebForms because that's what I know. I haven't used MVC.

jQuery draggable items lose their draggability after being swapped (with jsfiddle example)

I have two li elements which are jQuery draggable. When I drag and drop box 'one' over box 'two', they get swapped. So far so good. (The delay fixes another problem described here.) However the elements now are not draggable anymore, even after resetting their draggable option.

Any ideas how to fix this? full working jsfiddle here

Swapping two jQuery draggable list items not working properly (with jsFiddle example)

The minimalist working example below swaps the two boxes when box 'one' is dragged and dropped on box 'two'. The problem is that when box 'one' is dropped, its style has 'top' & 'left' values causing it to be placed away from where it should drop. Its class includes 'ui-draggable-dragging'. It seems the top & left values are related to the amount the elements were dragged before the drop. And the dragging was 'interrupted' hence the residual 'ui-draggable-dragging' class?
What am I missing to make the swap work seamlessly? full jsfiddle example here

Dropped item not being dropped in expected target (with jsfiddle example)

I created a sample based on the droppable simple photo manager. However when I drag the green box into the red box, the green box is dropped away from the red box. I think I am missing something subtle but can't put my hands on it. Any ideas?

Best directory site for JQuery plugins?

The listings at plugins.jquery.com are cumbersome to read and navigate. It's a long wall of text and all kinds of links and zero images! It will take me ages to check out the plugins.

Is there a better plugins directory website where each page has a bunch of ready to run demos so I can quickly check them out. I just want to click on each demo and see the effect and then if I want more info, I click on another link. The way the listings are organized at plugins.jquery.com is boring. You have to go through of a bunch of links to finally see the demo at some distant site.
