We are very happy to announce jQuery Conference 2012: UK, the first jQuery conference in the UK, on 10th February 2012. The conference will be held at the Saïd Business School in Oxford with a line-up including six jQuery team members and four industry experts:
Tickets
You can read more about the line-up, talks and location on the event site and tickets are on sale now at EventBrite.Organizers
The event is being organized by Oxford based digital agency White October with the permission of the jQuery project and with the help and support from jQuery team members. Last year, the jQuery events team tried to put together an event outside the USA and we found how very hard it was to secure a venue from so far away. The jQuery Team is very happy to be working with White October in putting the conference together, and we hope to have you join as we make our European debut!Sponsorship
If your company is interested in sponsoring the event please take a look at the sponsor pack, please feel free to email or phone (+44(0)207 976 4894) John at White October to discuss the different options.- 22-Jun-2011 12:13 PM

Call for Speakers
We are officially opening a call for speakers. If you would like to speak at the conference on topics such as jQuery, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, or general front-end development, please submit your talk proposal to us by July 15th. Speakers will be notified, confirmed, and announced within a week after the deadline.

We will be opening registration soon. You can fill out the form on the events home page and be notified the instant tickets are available.
Hotel
We have worked with the Royal Sonesta Hotel and have a huge block of rooms reserved for the conference. The Royal Sonesta is providing a discounted room rate of $273.53/night (includes tax). If you make your reservation over the phone, please let them know that you are staying for the jQuery Conference to get the discount. You can also reserve your room online. Please use the coded website link on the hotel page of the event site to ensure you get the discounted rate.
More information
If you or your company are interested in sponsoring this event, please contact us to find out more information.
We’re aware that, unfortunately, this year’s Boston conference overlaps JSConf.eu. We considered a number of dates, but had to settle on the 1st and 2nd. We are truly sorry if this presents a conflict for you and hope you can enjoy a weekend of JavaScript on either side of the Atlantic.

The jQuery Project is very excited to announce the dates for our next San Francisco Bay Area conference; after a fantastic event in 2010, we'll be returning to the Microsoft Silicon Valley Research Center in Mountain View, California on April 16
th and 17th , 2011.The San Francisco Bay Area conference is the first of two events planned by the jQuery Project in 2011. We're also in the early stages of planning an event for the East Coast for later this year (we'll post details as they become available).Registration is now open! Regularly priced tickets are $299, and for a limited time, there are early-bird tickets available at a $50 discount (early-bird tickets available until March 2nd, or while supplies last). For more details on the what, when and who, head over to the events site.In addition to two days of jQuery sessions, we’ll once again be offering a day of jQuery training, on the Friday before the conference. In response to popular demand last year, we'll be offering two training tracks -- Beginner jQuery and Advanced. The training is generoursly offered by our friends at JupiterIT and Bocoup, and all proceeds go directly to funding the future growth of the jQuery project. Keep an eye on this blog and the events site for specific training agendas, coming soon.Want to contribute?Interested in speaking? We're still filling out the roster, and we'ld love to have you! Our Call for Papers is live here, and submissions are already starting to roll in. Keep an eye on the jQuery Blog for agenda updates as we fill the slots.Lastly, if you or your company would like to help out by sponsoring the event, send an email to sponsorship@jquery.com. Every little bit helps, and we'd love to work with you and your team! That's it for now folks -- looking forward to seeing you all in sunny California!- 19-Feb-2011 12:13 AM

If you are driving your car to the venue please note that the Hilton has a self park option which will cost $32/day.- We wanted to provide cheaper options then the Boston Hilton Logan as it seems the closer you are to the airport the higher the costs per night the rooms are. Please note that the hotels listed below were chosen based on price. The jQuery Team is not recommending these hotels but are providing cheaper options then staying at the Hilton. The jQuery Team has no idea the quality of the hotel. We suggest doing your own research into the quality. All rates were gained by going to the hotel web site and looking up rates for Oct 15-Oct 18 and selecting 1 Adult for a king size bed.

Packt Publishing is the publisher for popular jQuery books like:- I'd like to outline what our plans are for the site, short term and longer term. All summer long we have been battling spam on the plugin repository. It had gotten worse over time to the point it overwhelmed the infrastructure team. The team locked the site down two weeks ago to evaluate the situation and to figure out a solution to this problem.Last year we announced that we would be launching a new plugin site by the end of the year. Needless to say the team was not going to launch a site that wasn't ready for launch. We've decided to totally start from scratch on the plugin site and start over, unfortunately priorities in the project have shifted with jQuery Mobile the last few months as well as other projects that have not been announced. Please also consider that with the exception of John who works on jQuery core and Scott who works on jQuery UI the rest of the team is 100% volunteer. We maintain servers and manage developers expectations on our personal time. We have day jobs and families and we also have to fill in our love for jQuery in that full schedule. With that said the plugin repository problems are a result of being lower priority and no time to work on it. We've discussed as a team what has happened over the last two weeks and what we plan on doing to get this site fixed now and in the future. It is also a fault of the Developer Relations team (that's me) in that we haven't communicated the status of this site sooner. For now, the infrastructure team has locked down the site to stop the addition of spam on the site. We've started cleaning the spam from the site and have upgraded the underlying site engine to it's latest version. The upgrade is what has taken the time that it has. The plan is to ideally have the updated site upgraded by the end of the week. At that time the site will be unlocked to logins again.Longer term the site is going to be completely rewritten and we are hoping to have something launched in the next couple of months. The idea for the new site will be to make the plugin site more of a plugin index that link off to your plugin site. More information on that will come out as we get closer to launch. Look for that by the end of the year. Please be patient as we work to resolve the problems with the site we are facing. We are working to ensure that the site is working and usable going forward.I'll keep this thread updated with the latest information as I receive it.Thanks,Ralph WhitbeckDeveloper Relations
The fourth maintenance release for jQuery UI 1.8 is out. This update brings bug fixes for the Droppable, Resizable, Selectable and Sortable interactions as well as the Accordion, Autocomplete, Button, Datepicker Dialog, Progressbar, Slider and Tabs widgets. jQuery UI 1.8.3 was released a few days prior to 1.8.4, but there was a problem with the build system that caused some of the files to not contain any copyright information. If you noticed the 1.8.3 release and upgraded, please upgrade to 1.8.4. For the full list of changes, see the changelog. You can download it here:

New Features
In this release, we’ve added four new methods to help with setting the dimensions of elements (actually, we’ve modified existing functions from jQuery core). .innerHeight(), .innerWidth(), .outerHeight(), and .outerWidth() can now be used as setters. They all accept a number as a parameter, and that number will be used to set the width or height appropriately, based on the padding, border, and margins (depending on the method).
ACCORDION
You can now pass multiple events to accordion’s event option. See the hover intent demo to see an example of an accordion reacting to both clicks and hovers.
AUTOCOMPLETE
Two new options have been added to autocomplete: position and appendTo. The position option allows you to take advantage of the position utility to customize where the menu will be displayed. The appendTo option allows you to specify which element the menu will be appended to, defaulting to the body.
DIALOG
The dialog plugin has also been updated to allow full usage of the position utility. Setting the dialog’s position with a string or array is still possible, but will be removed in a future version.
TABS
The tabs plugin has been updated to allow accessing tabs by href in addition to index. The enable, disable, select, load, and remove methods all accept the href of a tab.
Changelog
See the 1.8.4 Upgrade Guide for a list of changes that may affect you when upgrading from 1.8.2. For full details on what’s included in this release see the 1.8.4 Changelog.

http://dev.jqueryui.com/ticket/5685Take this example of jQuery Core getting a invalid string in .show().
- $("#ID").show("SlowAsFatCat");
Even with invalid string $.show() will still show the element with id of ID.
Example: http://jsbin.com/acoxe4
If jQuery UI is loaded onto the page the $.show() method in the effects library will take over as it thinks the invalid string is a effect. But if it can't find the effect to show it does nothing. It doesn't fall back to doing anything or it doesn't display a JavaScript error.
Example: http://jsbin.com/acoxe4/2
$.ui.show(); should provide the same consistent fallback as jQuery Core.

So far it'll be Rey Bango and I and possibly a few more of the Developer Relations (aka Evangelists).
In addition to submitting your question here you can call in your question to (804) 4jQuery, (804) 457-8379. (it's a google voice number and it'll dump you right to voice mail). Please remember to say who you are. We'll play your question on the show if we use it.
Some topics you might want to ask:- Clarify a feature in 1.4
- Ask us about future projects/conferences etc
- jQuery UI
- Plugin suggestions
- How to get involved
- anything you want!
The second release candidate for jQuery UI 1.8 is out and ready for testing. You can download it here:

Changelog
See the 1.8rc2 Changelog for what’s been fixed since 1.8rc1. For a list of all issues fixed since 1.7.2, see previous 1.8 changelogs.
Upgrade Guide
A full Upgrade Guide for easing the transition between 1.7 and 1.8 is in the works. This will be ready in time for the final release. In the meantime, one of the more significant (and breaking) changes in 1.8 already documented there is a refactor of the widget factory. This means anyone that has built their own plugin that uses the widget factory will need to make a number of changes for compatibility with 1.8. For a view of these changes, see the widget factory section of the Upgrade Guide. Also, see this sample implementation of a simple widget with both the 1.7 and 1.8 widget factories, and the differences, by Scott González.
Plan for 1.8 final
We hope to release jQuery UI 1.8 final after a couple days, assuming there aren’t any blocking issues present in this release candidate.
Thanks
A big thanks to all that have worked on all the bug fixes and other improvements that have gone into this release. We’ll have a proper listing of all contributors in the final release announcement.
How to report issues
If you find any issues in this release, please do not put them in comments on this post, but instead head over to the Developing jQuery UI Forum. Thank you.

- Forum: Using jQuery UI
Update: For those of you that were using the ThemeSwitcher on your site we have reenabled the ThemeSwitcher Tool Widget at http://jqueryui.com/themeroller/themeswitchertool/
We are aware of the problems with the Download Builder and ThemeRoller and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We have disabled those components on our web site until the problems with these components can be resolved. In the meantime, we would like to offer these static links for jQuery UI and jQuery UI Themes. The Development bundle includes code for all jQuery UI plugins and the base theme. The Themes Package includes all 21 pre-built themes from the ThemeRoller gallery.

Google CDN
Multiple stable versions of jQuery UI are hosted on Google's CDN as well as all the ThemeRoller themes for 1.7.2: base, black-tie, blitzer, cupertino, dark-hive, dot-luv, eggplant, excite-bike, flick, hot-sneaks, humanity, le-frog, mint-choc, overcast, pepper-grinder, redmond, smoothness, south-street, start, sunny, swanky-purse, trontastic, ui-darkness, ui-lightness, vader.
With Download Builder and ThemeRoller out of commission you will not be able to create custom downloads or themes. We understand that this is inconvenient and we are working as hard as we can to solve the problems as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!
