Alt text in expand collapse

I'm just getting back into mobile hybrid development after 6 years and starting off slow. I am using, data-role="collapsible-set", and I'm trying to figure out how you would add the alternative text for screen readers to let the user know that it is "Open" or "Closed". Or, do I have to write my own script?
