Can't get two input fields to fade

Can't get two input fields to fade

I'm trying to hide the entire login form, and it goes to the case statement, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't fade them. Occasionally it will hide them (without the animation), but now it just does nothing (the JQuery code runs because I've stepped through with Firebug).

Any help would be greatly received.
