Committing in SVN
Committing in SVN
Hi Team,
It recently came to me that only two people are constantly checking in stuff into our SVN folder (plugins/ui/). This is Richard and me (allthough Sean provided some skinning as well).
Now I don't know the reasons why some of you don't commit early, but I'd really like to hear.
There is only one reason I can think of right now: Not wanting other people to look at / use early code. For this one, I can assure that I often commit code that doesn't even work (or code with serious flaws), and I was never ever asked in any of the jquery lists about something in SVN not working correctly. If there is no information about something, people won't look for a stable release.
It really bugs me (and I believe John is feeling the same way) when I see early examples or code that's located on another server, but not in our very own SVN. Commiting early has many advantages:
1.) If your own server/pc crashes, you still have a backup
2.) Other people can collaborate (if wanted) much easier
3.) Now the most important one for me: The guys who plan the whole project do have a clue what's going on.
So please try to use it, even if it's only for yourself and the code doesn't even work, it's a great help to you (as backup) and your colleagues!
Thanks a lot,
Paul<br clear="all">
