cookies anyone?

Hi all i have been creating a menu that when it loads it opens the menu at the right place now what i would like to do is instead of using PHP $_GET i would like to use just jquery and cookies but im not totally sure how to go about it

also the menu seems to be a bit jumpy when it first loads how could a get around this
