Disabling UI format on individual element

I seem to be having issues with iPads not allowing selection of UI formatted drop down options for Jquery 1.6.2.

Jquery seems to render <select/option> tags in to UL/LIs.. can I disable that on this individual drop down to work around this issue? Or is there something else I can do to enable the drop downs on iPads without having to jump across to JQM or upgrading versions.
