Dynamically updating link button text - not working on the second run.

Hi, can anyone tell me how I can update the text on link buttons dynamically.  I can get it to work the first time but then I lose the formatting.

I have included a jsfiddle to hopefully show what I am trying to do - please ignore the layout/styling as I have stripped it down to basics to just to get it working.
