Hey i was just wondering that after hiding a div using the hide() property of jquery is it possible to make that dive fadeTo ?

Hey i was just wondering that after hiding a div using the hide() property of jquery is it possible to make that dive fadeTo ?

Like i said i am just wondering if it is necessary to show a div using show() if it has beed hidden using hide() or can one also use fadeTo to achieve that.. also if someone could explain fadeTo that would be brilliant..
