How far in development is the datepicker 2.0?

I read the wiki page about the datepicker for 2.0. How far is it in development as of Sept 6, 2010 and is there a list of the current datepicker 1.8.x bugs that would be fixed (beside the wiki page)? Or is it a completely new development?
