How to detect touch panel

I design two interfaces for regular visitor and cell phone touch panel visitor, in the past, I use the screen resolution as judgement to bring up the interface, but now there are many products with touch panel and bigger resolution in the market, such as IPad, they should use the touch panel interface as well, is there any specific method to detect touch panel or not?
