How to troubleshoot breaking changes as a result of jQuery functionality improvements?

I have functionality that was developed many moons ago, and I don't keep track of individual jquery version upgrades.

Now, when I upgrade to a never jquery version stuff stops working.

How does one go about trying to find out what is not working?
