ID-Selector always returns null after move to new server

ID-Selector always returns null after move to new server

I just moved a project from my development-server to the live-server. Since the move, the jQuery I use for scrolling an image stopped working:
  1. $("#" + divid) is null
  2. // divid is "box" in this case
The variable doesn't seem to be the problem, since it contains the right string when I check with Firebug.
I tried selecting the div without the variable:
  1. $('#box')
But it just returns null. When I do the same on the development-server-copy of the page, it works and returns the div.
Selecting the element the following way works, but doesn't let me use .animate() on it, probably since it doesn't return it as a jQuery-Object:
  1. $('box')
The element is present, has the right ID and there is no other element with the same ID.
Does anyone know what might be going wrong here?

SOLVED: I had a lightbox-script with the "Prototype"-Framework embedded, which apparently conflicts with jQuery. Problems circumvented by using
  1. jQuery('#box')
instead of
  1. $('#box')
for my calls. Prototype wasn't properly linked in the development version, which is why there was no conflict there. Hope this helps anyone else!
