Image gallery problem

Hi, I have a row of thumbnails. When the user clicks a thumb, an image fades in. When the user clicks the thumb again, it disappears. The problem is, when the user clicks a different thumb, the first enlargement is still open. How can I get it so whenever a user clicks a thumb, any open image fades out/ goes away? Thanks!
