Is there a strategy which allows putting javascript at the bottom of page for performace?

If you place your scrips inside the closing </body> tag at the bottom of the page for performance reasons the scripts are included in every page loaded via AJAX. Is there a strategy to allow scripts to be loaded at the bottom of the page without having this occur?
