jquery disabling all hrefs and making text inaccessible to copy/paste

Help!  I am a real newbie in using jquery.  And I have been recruited by a friend recently to update his Website.  I put a pretty nice slide show on it (using WOWSlider).  It still has some legacy "crap" code from his insistence on using FrontPage (!!!) to edit html.  

Anyway, if I enable the <script> line that includes jquery.js, which is necessary for the slideshow to run, it suddenly makes all text inaccessible on the site and NONE of the hrefs work!

If I remove the line with the jquery.js style link, all the links work and the text is accessible, but, of course the slideshow doesn't work!  

ANY help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated!
