[jQuery] Div control

I would like to know how to use jQuery to control (create, delete,
update, toggle, animate, etc.) divs. I have been searching, but never
find anything satisfactory.
For example, I would especially like to find a script that can do all
of this via the "a href" tag.
I would appreciate any leads.
