[jQuery] Getting element dimensions

[jQuery] Getting element dimensions

Is there a jQuery way of getting and setting an elements dimensions,
i.e. width, height, z-index, position on page? Something that would
work well in a cross platform/browser way (so you don't have to worry
that it is off by a few pixels or in completely the wrong place, or
work around the IE box model).
