[jQuery] Instant Messaging Capabilities

Hi guys,
Has anyone implemented an instant messaging solution using jQuery (or
another technology)? If so, I'd be interested in chatting about it. This
would be for a dating site and IM is extremely important for it.
I've already looked at Userplane but its too pricey.
Looking forward to some feedback.
