[jQuery] Is there a way to return the position of an element in a JQuery collection?

[jQuery] Is there a way to return the position of an element in a JQuery collection?


If you have a reference to an html element and you also have the results of
a JQuery search that may contain that element, how can you find the index
(position) of that element? (ie its position in the results)
I have a simple function to do it at the moment but I'm hoping JQuery can do
it.
