[jQuery] JavaScript 2.0 -- moving forward or back

Hi all. I'd like to get some opinions from the more experienced JS
programmers (especially Mr. Resig, if he would be so kind) about this
post regarding new features in JavaScript 2.0:
http://blog.jeremymartin.name/2008/03/web-20-meet-javascript-20.html
I read the first-half of the article, then scanned the rest. The
comments seemed split about 60/40, with 60 believing the new changes
are a boon, and the rest seeing the changes as "another C++".
My personal opinion is that the proposed changes are a step backwards.
It almost seemed as though none of the commentators had seen jQuery,
Prototype, et. all, and were commenting from their ass regarding JS'
"lack of OO".
Personally, I subscribe to David West and Alan Kay's descriptions of
"object-oriented". West because OO is more a mindset than a language
feature, and Kay because, well, he's the godfather of it all.
Anywho, what do you think? Are the features proposed for JS 2.0 a step
back or forward?
