[jQuery] jQuery "Light"?
[jQuery] jQuery "Light"?
I agree there is a lot of code for parsing Xpath expressions. I don't use
them much myself yet, but that's mainly because I haven't studied them.
Xpath can do a lot more than CSS selectors. If it becomes an optional part
of JQuery I suspect that many people might then want chainable methods for
the same thing that Xpath could do. Then there will be two ways to do things
depending on whether you have Xpath there or not. There's nothing inherently
wrong with TMTOWTDI, but it would probably make JQuery bigger instead of
smaller.
How many people are using JQuery with Prototype now? Would it make more
sense to ask them to insert the compatibility shims in their own local
version, rather than leaving it in the core?

Subject: [jQuery] jQuery "Light"?
So after my little incident with the throw statement that warns prototype
users that they're including stuff in the wrong order, i've taken a (quick)
look at the core code and stuff that could be cut for us
"no-prototype-near-my-sites" users. Now I'm wondering, Would it be worth it
to also look into clipping the xpath functionality? It's something I
personally don't use, and it could offer a jQuery-light library that could
do all that needs to be done in some scenarios.
or, possibly, the jquery prototype 'kindness' functions and the xpath
functionality could be moved to a module. Does anyone have any thoughts on
this?
