[jQuery] .NET with jQuery - noconflict?

Is it a must to call jQuery.noconflict when using jQuery with .NET.
What are the potential problems that would arise?
I am NOT using jQuery noconflict at the moment on a social networking
site w/ all the bells and whistles. I don't see any conflicts but I'm
worried that performance is taking a hit and noconflict would resolve
that. We are currently trying to optimize everything.
Any help is appreciated!
