[jQuery] Possible to disable an image?

Hi,
I've noticed on some sites certain images will be grayed out,
indicating they can't be clicked on. Is there a way in JQuery to
disable an image or do I need to create two imagse and swtich out the
source depending on whether I want it to be used or not?
