jQuery Slider lag / performance

Hello
I was thinking of utilizing the jQuery UI slider in my application but
the lag in the movement of the knob is unbearable; interestingly, the
scriptaculous slider has very little or no lag. A slider widget plays
a key role in my project and before switching to scriptaculous I'd
like to ask: is there a way to fix the widget's lag?
