jQuery Upgrade from jQuery v1.10.2 to v3.2.1

jQuery Upgrade from jQuery v1.10.2 to v3.2.1

Problem:  Our site has some code that allows for viewers to see the results of thousands of cancer patients, following cancer treatment.  The goal is to help folks understand which treatments work the best.  This code uses library of code called HighCharts, along with jQuery.  We are migrating from an old template to Elegant's Divi Template.  Unfortunately, there seem to be issues between the version jQuery code we are using and the Divi Template.

The version of jQuery currently loaded on the server and included on the web pages is jQuery JavaScript Library v1.10.2.  I have been looking over the web site, trying to understand what the right steps would be to upgrade to the latest levels jQuery v3.2.1.

Question:  Do I need to migrate from v1.10.2 to v3.2.1, or can I just replace the file on the server?  I am not real sure what the migration does, or if it is necessary.

Can someone provide the steps needed to correctly update our new site from v1.10.2 to v3.2.1?

Thanks, Dean
