Make a preloader

I use a accordion to show an images thumbs, and a dialog to show then
in a real size (700 * 500 px), but, the dialog charge before the image
and some times the position of the dialog is wrong or the picture
don't sohw. There is one way to do the dialog waits o knows when the
picture was loaded?
