Newbie trouble downloading JQuery from JQuery.org

I am new to JQuery and tried to download the compressed and uncompressed versions from JQuery.org, but instead of downloading when I click on the download buttons, the files are opened as small text files that apparently have javascript code in them. I tried this in different browsers and on both the Mac and IBM.

I can't figure out what is going on. Suggestions welcome.
