Option in Preferences to disable auto-refresh?

I really really would like to turn off the auto-refresh. Personally, I think it's terrible, and at the very least should be optional.

edit: In case it's already possible to disable the auto-refresh, please point me in the right direction. I will forever be thankful. ;)
