Password Strength plugin

I downloaded the password validation plugin from http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-password-validation/ to show password strength. It seems to work fine in the demo but doesn't show the password-meter-bar (or anything else) when using jquery-1.8.2.js and jquery.validate.js (v1.13.1). Is this a compatibility issue or could I be doing something wrong?
