Slow issue

I'm using the above plugin on our sites and having a issue where its quite slow when the list is long, this is quite common to have about 500+ in the list and1500 on the top size. It can take a while for the page to load and i was wondering if anyone knew an alternative way of doing it and any optimizations that can be done. I like the way this works and would like to keep something similar but if anyone has any other UI ideas it's also welcome.
