I looked at the jQuery UI dialog, but it's way beyond me - I'm new to javascript, let alone jquery, so don't understand the syntax very well (and I couldn't find a tut specifically on the UI modal dialog).

I agree that it seems CSS is the issue, but I tried messing around with the CSS and couldn't pinpoint what was causing the mask to do that.
