Sortable

I recently switched my portlets from server side rendering to client
side rendering. As soon as I made this change, I noticed that the
sortable placeholder will disappear from time to time. When the
placeholder is missing during a sort, and the user releases her left
mouse button, the portlet is lost.
Does anyone have an idea why this may be happening?
