sortables & cookies

hi all,
i have spent the last few nights searching and still haven't found a solution.
if anyone can offer any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

what i need to do is create sortable divs like on:
http://interface.eyecon.ro/demos/sort.html
but have the positions stored on page reload.

i know interface is kind of out of date, but if anyone can show me a working example of what i am trying to do using jquery & interface or any other plugin, it would save me hours & hours.

i don't really want to write the user placed divs to a database, would prefer to use cookies. any suggestions?
