Ticket discussion: #2851 filter and is should accept complex selectors

Hi devs,
I'd like to gather some feedback on this ticket:

Its obvious that something is broken when looking at a related ticket:
http://dev.jquery.com/ticket/2266
Fixing the issue is currently blocked by a pending design issue:
Should filter/is accept complex selectors?
If not, is it acceptable to the issue reported in #2266 without full
support for complex selectors on filter/is?
If you've stumbled about a (related) issue, please share your
experiences and expectations.
