What happened to "jquery-latest.min.js" on code.jquery.com?

A couple years ago, I was advised to use the above link to ensure I got the latest version of jquery, and have coded this into my website. Today, while I was editing my site, I noticed that the link no longer worked, as my sub-paging (using "tabs") failed. I was able to get things working again by changing the src file to "jquery-3.3.1.min.js".

Is this a temporary problem, or the way of the world in 2018 and beyond?
