z-index and accordian

I'm trying to use an accordian control in my site...

the menu uses the bgiframe plugin to get around ie6 but now the accordion is over the menu

i've tried setting the z-index on the accordian to 0 or -1 and it has no effect the menu always pops behind the accordian
