I have been working with Brian Reindel's Truncate plug-in....trying to get ti to do what I need. It seems simple enough, but I continue to struggle. The plug-in is designed to truncate the html content within a tag to a certain length...taking into consideration the whole last word. It works great...however I need to truncate a list item that contains both text and a link; like so: <li>This is the text that leads to: A link that needs to be truncated.</li> The function currently looks like this:
[jQuery] Superfish problem and solution
When using Superfish to create a dropdown menu that dropped/faded in over the top of a Flash movie, I was having weird behavior on Firefox 2 on the Mac (and only that browser). Turns out to be a bug in the interaction between semi-transparent areas and Flash. In my case, when the menu faded in, the Flash movie turned white until the menu was completely faded in. My solution (in case anyone else runs into this problem): In the superfish.js file, added this function after the sf.IE7fix function: sf.MacFF2fix
Is it me or the fancyBox?
Because a site says more then a thousand words: the problem As you can see the starting page works great, any date/image opens nicely in the fancyBox thingy. But, as you navigatie between months a hash is added to the window location (for example index.html#oktober) and the fancyBox stops working. Now i'm a complete noob (yes, me too) at javascript and the scripting on this site is mostly adjusting parameters from cut and paste scripts so it would be really helpfull if someone can help me out Ohh...

I don't completely understand $(this).attr(..) vs $('#....')
In a function, I can use $(this).attr('value') to get the value from a textbox but I can't use $('#textid').attr('value') instead I have to use $('#textid')[0].value And, by the way, in the function you CANNOT use $(this).value What am I missing. Thanks for the education....

I've got the superfish menus and animation working on the following site: http://beta.adriandominicans.org/ However, the MouseOut delay isn't working on IE6/7/8. It seems that all animations except the MouseOut delay work. Any theories? Thanks, Dave

Hi all! I'm developing an application to allow users to copy the images from our system to their flickr account, dragging some icons from one div (system) to another (flickr). To make this I need to login the user in flickr (yahoo) before the uploads can be done. I don't like the idea of sending the user to the yahoo's page to login and then return to my site (it breaks the flow of the app). Maybe someone knows how to login in flickr externally? Thanks.

[jQuery] Superfish - Examples not showing correctly in IE6
Hi everyone, I am attempting to implement Superfish for the first time and I'm having some problems with IE6 (big surprise!). When I disable javascript to test the css-only version in IE6, the submenus simply do not show up. I figured I must have broken something when I modified the css for my site, but when I checked the examples at http://users.tpg.com.au/j_birch/plugins/superfish/#examples I found that the dropdowns don't appear here either when JS is turned off. Isn't this supposed to work? Am
[jQuery] *Superfish* Drop Shadow Problem
First, a big thanks to Joel Birch for his Superfish CSS and JS, great stuff. I'm using the SuperSubs and have modified the CSS to do some repositioning, sizing, coloring, etc. Only problem is that the drop shadows on the submenus stop short (i.e. they appear on the bottom, but not on the right side). It would appear that the menu item is being dynamically extended, but the drop shadow is not, or not being extended enough. All help appreciated. [jQuery] form post and link to new pages incredibly slow in Internet Explorer/Firefox
Ok so I built a little site using $post and .empty to clear out content and replace it. This works well until I click a link or fill in a form that goes away from this page. If the link or form is the first thing I do then its much quicker but after refilling the page with about 10 $post events this lag happens. It may take up to 4 minutes for it to move to start loading the nextpage even though the path in the address bar indicates we are already on the next page. I have tries setting the next page
Syncing two jquery slideshows
Hi, I'm using this jquery cycle plugin http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/ for two "slideshows" on this page: http://dev.emsix.com/renaissance/default.asp. I have one slideshow for the graphic masthead and one for the text in the white box. I have each set to rotate at the same interval, but over time, the sync gets slightly off. Is there a way I can fire off a function to change the text ONLY when the graphic changes? That way one will control the other and they'll be truly synced. I'm a total newbie

Retrieving an element name?
Hi all, Consider the following query code: $("div#content p:has(strong)").each(function(){ //for every match do something }); Within div#content I'm matching every paragraph with a strong tag in it. What I'd like to do next is find out which tag it is that comes next to it. I know I can make a match using next() but how can I find out which element it actually is? So that I can put that in a var or use it for an if statement or something... Anyone who can help out?
Slider within Tabs not working
I am trying to get a jquery slider (such as example #2 seen here http://dev.jquery.com/view/tags/ui/1.5b ... lider.html) to work within some jquery tabs (such as these http://www.stunicholls.com/various/tabbed_pages.html). However the slider will not work because the tab is set to "hide". Yet if I set the tab to "show" then it messes up the tab effect. Is there a workaround for this? Someone please help!
Dropdown box breaks after ajax call
Hello, I have attached an onchange="" action to my dropdown box, so that it changes the content of some div. After the call, all of the dropdown box breaks, and when you click it, it just doesn't drop down. This issue occurs in Firefox only. It works fine in IE. [jQuery] strange resize error with $("body").height()
Hi, I have the following: var winH = $("body").height(); console.log("winH: ", winH); console.log("css height: ", $("body").css("height")); If I resize the browser, the values for both remain the same as the time the page was hit by the browser. Hopefully simple problem. on the "old" jquery site, when one browsed plugins there was often a link to a page with a demo/example/docs. Now on the "new" jquery site, it seems like the plugins are just listed and when you click on them, you can pretty much only download the plugin. Hi all, I´m using jquery to post some Form with Ajax, but it doesn´t send the name of the 'submit' button that was clicked. WIth normal form submission without AJAX, the browser always send the name and value of the submit button. My web framework, needs this parameters, to find out if the button was clicked, in order to call its listener method... It seens that the ${form}.serialize() doesn´t append the submit name/ value in tue query String. I tested the Form.serialize() from protype and it works.
[jQuery] random image load problem with cycle
I'm loving Cycle, but am experiencing some little blips that I'm not sure how to fix. I have 15-20 images in my slideshow, which I want to both load and cycle randomly. The slideshow is random, but the initial load is not. The same image always shows up first, then either a) almost immediately switches to another random image without any transition or b) sits around there for a significant length of time before fading into another random image.
