Hi folks,
I had an idea to create a cross plattform mobile game like battleships or a simple TicTacToe, chess, nine men's morris or checkers.. (haven't decided yet) with jquery mobile or Sencha Touch to get more involved into pure mobile js app development.
I'm quite new to jquery or sencha (developed a lot with mootools and yui the past years, jquery only a bit) so I'd like to broaden my mind with some new fancy stuff - and what is better for this than a little game :)
I'm posting here, because I'm not sure which framework to take or to get some feedback if it is actually possible or what I need to think of too. There are some things I thought of yet which lead me a bit more to jquery mobile than to sencha, which I'd like to share with you (just my thoughts, please don't judge them too hard ;) :
- Pro jQ Mobile: jq mobile demos runs very sexy on my device (Samsung Galaxy S with Froyo) - sencha doesn't - kind of sluggish..
- Pro jQ Mobile: senchas top winning apps (http://www.sencha.com/contest/) don't even run acceptable in my eyes on my phone (I'm totally heading for plattform independency, so this is a big minus for sencha)
- Pro jQ Mobile: not commercial! - Open Source FTW! Sencha Touch is proprietary..
- Pro jQ Mobile: History deeplinking in the demo.. I love it! very nice! A very good way to start. - I hate the demo of Sencha because I usually press the back button on my device and am totally out to the index page again..
- Pro Sencha: v1.0 is out -> Stable! I can't evaluate the alpha state of jquery mobile for myself with this project.. How much is the API going to change until the final release? On the other hand, I would definitely provide feedback to the community, which is of course a big win for all of us.
- Pro Sencha: Source Button on every Kitchensink demo - this makes some things really easy to find out how it works (especially on my device where is no 'Show source' button in the default browser)
- Not Decided: Drag&Drop... for some games a drag&drop event is a really cool and usefull.. I haven't seen any Demos whether at Sencha's Demos nor here in jQ Mobile.. Do you have any experiences with this on mobile devices?
Ideas, critics and questions welcome.
Cheers
